Samuel da Silva is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at UNESP - Universidade Estadual Paulista (Brazil) and Research Fellow from National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq/Brasil).
He obtained the B.Sc. degree and M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNESP - Campus Ilha Solteira in 2002 and 2005, respectively. In 2008 he received his D.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) with a stage at FEMTO-ST in Besançon (France).
Currently, he is also Visiting Researcher at Arts et Métiers – ParisTech with a fellowship of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) - sabbatical year.
Research Activities
His research interests cover:
- System Identification
- Signal Processing
- Applied Mechanics
- Structural Health Monitoring
His research project at Arts et Métiers aims to develop and test a new strategy to perform damage detection and prognosis in composite structures with piezoelectric elements bonded based on probabilistic extrapolation of the coefficients of linear and nonlinear autoregressive models identified by using guided waves and non-resonant Lamb wave.
