Research engaged in this field are carried out in close collaboration with the Laser group at PIMM. The scientific issues are related with the understanding of the microstructures obtained after additive manufacturing (for both DMD and SLM techniques) and Laser surface treatments. These processes induce cooling rates very different from those classically encountered in standard fabrication processes in metallurgy, and require thus specific studies. The CoMet group also makes use of Laser sources for localized heat treatments aiming at a local modification of material properties. Our objective is to construct new architecture structures with new properties or properties gradients for specific applications.
