Research interests

I am studying the mechanical behaviour of polycrystals, from both experimental and theoretical points of view, with emphasis on the link between microstructure, effective behaviour, and deformation mechanisms at the local (typically micrometric) scale. I work in particular on the mechanical interpretation of neutrons and X-ray diffraction techniques, that allow direct measurement of the elastic strain distribution in deformed materials. At present, I am strongly involved in the stress field analysis at a sub-micron scale, measured by Laue microdiffraction. Use of micromechanical models is necessary for the interpretation of diffraction data. I use and develop mean-field homogenization methods, in particular those based on the self consistent scheme, and their extensions to nonlinear behaviours such as viscoplasticity and elastoviscoplasticity. The reliability of these approaches can now be evaluated by means of systematic comparisons with full-field reference solutions (such as obtained by a FFT technique). Evaluation of intraphase heterogeneities and associated microstructure evolution (hardening, lattice rotation, recrystallization) was of special interest during the last years.

Investigated materials include pure metals and metallic alloys (steels, copper, zirconium alloys, …), ceramics (ex. zirconia), nanomaterials (thin films), architectured materials, as well as geomaterials (ice, minerals, ..).

Current research projects:

  • ERC FASTMAT concerning the study of Very High Cycle Fatigue (VHCF) of materials. We are developping an in situ time resolved (10ns) diffraction experiment at the  beamline DiffAbs of the french synchrotron SOLEIL, that we interpret using micromechanical modeling approaches.
  • ANR-DFG HoTMiX to investigate the micromechanical behavior of nanostructured oxydes at very temperatures by using in situ synchrotron experiments.
  • ANR ForgeLaser in which we perform a mechanical analysis (modelling + experiments) of Laser shock used to generate residual stresses in metallic alloys.
  • ITN CESAREF , in particular PhD7 : stress field in refractory ceramics.
